Kylian Mbappé sent refusal to extend letter to the French media before PSG – NYT

The New York Times’ Tariq Panja affirms that 24-year-old France captain Kylian Mbappé’s camp sent his formal letter announcing his refusal to extend his PSG contract, which expires in June 2024, to the French media before sending it to the latest Ligue 1 champions, in what is a damning look into how his entourage appears to be operating, if the reporting is accurate.

The reason that the club is so caught off guard by today’s revelation is that they had told Mbappé that he had until July 31st to make a decision on whether or not he would be triggering an option in his current deal that would extend his stay at the French capital until June 2025 and therefore his decision appears to be hasty.

One element that could explain this decision: Kylian Mbappé made it clear last year that he would feel like he betrayed the club if he were to leave on a free transfer.

Perhaps he feels that by informing Les Parisiens of his desire to exit now, he is giving them ample time during this window to sell him?
