Dutch Football Legend slams National Team Players for Disgraceful Attitude Let Him Take It

Van Hanegem criticizes Orange players: ‘Shameful, they thought: let him take it’

Former Netherlands player and coach Willem van Hanegem was critical of the current Orange team’s behavior during their recent match against Turkey.

In an interview with Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad, Van Hanegem expressed disappointment with the team’s attitude towards taking a penalty kick. He said, “I found it embarrassing how our players dealt with that penalty. Everyone thought: let Memphis Depay take it. And then, when he doesn’t, everyone looks at him as if to say: why not?”

Van Hanegem went on to say that the team lacked leadership and that the situation showed a “lack of character.” He said, “It’s shameful. They’re international players, but they acted like it was a kids’ game.”

The former player and coach also criticized the team’s performance on the pitch, saying that they lacked creativity and that the midfield was too slow.

This criticism comes after the Netherlands’ disappointing 4-2 loss to Turkey on March 24 during the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

Will Orange be able to recover from this setback?

These comments from Van Hanegem raise some valid concerns about the current state of the Orange team. Will they be able to recover from this setback and improve their performance in future matches? What changes need to be made in order to avoid similar situations in the future?
