Van Dijk responds after painful Dutch afternoon: ‘Reason to panic? A little bit’
Dutch captain admits disappointment after defeat
Dutch captain Virgil van Dijk has admitted that there is “a bit” of reason to panic after his national team’s 4-2 defeat to Germany on Friday. The loss comes just months after the Netherlands failed to qualify for the World Cup, and means they have lost three games in a row under new coach Ronald Koeman. “It was a painful defeat and there’s disappointment in the dressing room,” Van Dijk said after the match. “We have to analyse what went wrong and make sure we don’t repeat those mistakes in the future.”
Koeman confident of improvements
Despite the recent run of poor results, coach Ronald Koeman remains confident that the Netherlands can turn things around. “We need to keep working hard, and we will see the results sooner or later,” Koeman told reporters. “It’s not about the end result right now, but about the way we play and the progress we are making.”
