Netherlands settles for fourth place in UEFA Nations League

The Netherlands suffered a defeat against Italy in the consolation final of the UEFA Nations League and ended up finishing in fourth place in the tournament. Despite Ajax’s Donny van de Beek earning a late equalizer, Italy’s Nicolò Barella scored the winning goal in extra time.

Tough tournament for the Netherlands

The Netherlands had a challenging journey in the UEFA Nations League, starting with a goalless draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina. They then went on to win against Poland and Italy in the group stages before losing to Spain in the semifinals. Despite their strong performances, the Oranje were unable to secure a spot in the final match.

What’s next for the Netherlands?

The Netherlands will now turn their attention to the upcoming qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. They are set to face three tough opponents (Norway, Montenegro, and Turkey) in March 2021. The team will be looking to improve their performance and secure a spot in the World Cup, which will be held in Qatar in November and December of that year.
