Nasser AlKhelaïfi using Kylian Mbappé development to attempt to remove Luís Campos

PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi is furious with both Kylian Mbappé and the club’s Sporting Advisor Luís Campos following the French international attacker’s decision to submit a written letter the the capital club on Monday afternoon announcing that he will not be extending his contract with Les Parisiens past June 2024.

PSG intend to sell the player as a result of this development, according to The Team and RMC Sport.

By announcing, by means of a letter, his intention not to exercise the option of an additional year in his contract, Kylian Mbappé has triggered a real war internally, according to Foot Market. Already tumultuous, the relationship between Nasser Al-Khelaïfi and Luis Campos is now at breaking point. A chaotic situation for the capital club. A boon for Real Madrid, ready to rush in this summer…

The announcement had the effect of that of a bomb, but such a response is not really surprising. By sending a letter to his employer, PSG, to stipulate that he will leave on June 30th 2024 on a free transfer in the event that he is still at the club, Kylian Mbappé has triggered a war of considerable proportions with Nasser Al-Khelaifi but also and above all with decision-makers in Doha. It should be remembered that certain media, including The Teambecame aware of this letter via the entourage of the 2018 world champion even before the senior management of PSG had it. A situation which has provoked the ire of the PSG board and which very clearly puts Luís Campos, already not particularly appreciated by Al-Khelaifi, in a dangerous spot.

Tired of the constant pressure from Mbappé, Al-Khelaïfi appears to have lost patience. The ultimatum set by the board of the reigning French champions goes in this direction: either Mbappé decides to extend his adventure in Paris, or a sale will be considered this summer. A firmness displayed by Doha decision-makers, at a time when a free transfer is absolutely not envisaged. With this scenario and the decision by Mbappé to inform PSG on June 12th that he will not extend beyond the summer of 2024, Luis Campos sees his position, a little more, weakened.

Feeling betrayed by his sports advisor, Al-Khelaifi fumes and could decide in the days to come to attempt to remove the Portuguese transfer supremo. Suspicious and annoyed by Kylian Mbappé’s behaviour, Doha decision-makers were also thinking of selling the former Monegasque as early as January 2023. According to Foot Marketthe Qataris hoped, at that time, to recover between €180m and €200m via the sale of Mbappé. With the decision to leak the letter to the media, there is no doubt that resentment will rise a notch on the Doha side and should, in this context, reinforce the idea of attempting to sell the player during this summer transfer window.

By giving such significant weight to the 2022 vice-world champion in decision-making following his extension last summer and appointing Luís Campos to lead the sporting project, only for this development to occur, the Doha board are furious. Al-Khelaifi may try to take advantage of the moment to remove an individual who has diminished his power in recent times in the form of Campos.
