De Jong critical of Orange performance: ‘I understand that it looks sluggish’
Barcelona player Frenkie de Jong was not pleased with the performance of the Dutch national team in their Euro 2020 qualifier match against Northern Ireland last Saturday. Despite winning the game 3-1, De Jong felt that the team’s playing style was sloppy.
“I understand that it looks sluggish from the outside,” De Jong told Dutch media. “We didn’t play our best game. We were sloppy in possession and made too many mistakes.”
Despite the win, De Jong believes that there is still a lot of room for improvement for the Dutch side. “In the end, the most important thing was that we got the result. But we know that we can play better than this.”
Can the Dutch national team improve their playing style for Euro 2020?
The Dutch team have already qualified for the Euro 2020 tournament but will be looking to improve their form if they hope to make a deep run in the competition. The squad has plenty of young, talented players, including De Jong himself, and the team will need to find their rhythm if they want to compete with some of the best teams in Europe. Will they be able to make the necessary adjustments and improve their playing style before the start of the tournament? Only time will tell.
